About
We Had Everything but Money traces the life of Helen Marie Lenninger from early childhood until her marriage to Paul Richard in 1948. She lovingly penned this autobiography at the age of 74 while caring for her two youngest grandchildren, Kate Albrecht and Frankie Davis. Finished in 2000, We Had Everything but Money was meant to be the first volume of a larger set with two later volumes detailing her experiences raising her children. While the other two volumes remain unfinished this work has much to share about life on a small Kansas farm during the Dust Bowl, Great Depression, and World War II. Helen opens with an extensive family timeline, a sampling of which is shown Helen’s Timeline. However, the body of Helen’s work includes a series of vignettes detailing her memories with headings anywhere from “Fordeson Tractor” to “Dad’s Wine.” You can explore a sampling of this body at Helen’s Story.
